Marine coatings, as defined in this study, refer to the products used on movable marine vessels, excluding offshore production and exploration platforms covered in the Protective module. The market consists of two key segments: shipbuilding and maintenance, repair, and conversion. Marine vessels can be categorised into commercial and leisure craft. Commercial vessels include deep sea (crude oil tankers, bulk carriers, container vessels, etc.), passenger vessels (cruise liners, ferries), offshore supply vessels, coastal vessels (fishing vessels, cargo barges, etc.), and freight shipping containers. Leisure craft encompass luxury yachts over 25 metres and recreational vessels under 25 metres. This study primarily focuses on deep sea vessels, which constitute the majority of coated tonnage in the market. Coatings applied to vessel machinery during operation are considered, while pre-coated machinery and naval/military coatings are excluded.
